New Leaf Ambassador

Hello everyone, my name is Jenna Cartwright. I was born and raised in a small community of Whitecourt, Alberta. Growing up in a small town I would often complain that there wasn’t much to do and my parents encouraged me to participate in physical activity from a young age. I’ve played all kinds of sports during my adolescent years, and I fell in love with figure skating and track. Running still remains one of my passions; I’ve completed 10 half marathons to date.

As I grew older and completed high school, I moved away from my hometown. I enrolled in the Practical Nurse Diploma Program at Red Deer College. Where the first year away from home got the best of me and I gained the freshman 15, I abandoned my healthy upbringing and started partying most weekend. I remember not feeling good (both physically and mentally) about my life style choices. Also, I had the realization that as a nurse I had a reputation to uphold. If I was going to spend my career taking care of sick patients and inspiring them to be there healthiest versions of their self, I had to first take care of my self. I changed my ways and turned back to physical activity to help lift my spirits. At that time, I was doing mainly cardio, I had plateaued and my body composition wasn’t changing.

Upon finishing my nursing diploma, my confidence grew, I developed a new attitude of feeling on top of the world. I had always been intrigued by the weight room but felt weights were just for the male population. I decided to give weight training a go and I have never looked back. Weight training has changed my mentality, it has taught me to value hard work, dedication and consistency. I joined the New Leaf family because I was looking for my next challenge Justin and Kirstin became my coaches for my first body building competition the Abba Northern show last June. Together as a team we took my weight training to the next level we balanced a full time nursing job, posing lessons I could barely walk in heels and diet and exercise plan. All the hard work paid off I won the ABBA Northern show placing first in my class as well as winning the overall Bikini title at my first show. Competing has been one of the scariest and one of my proudest accomplishments in my life. With the support of the New Leaf family, your possibilities are endless. I will be forever grateful for their guidance and support on my journey.
